GENERAL FAQ

1. Can I add extra layer of glass to my existing window for better soundproofing?

Answer: As of now, every window has its unique groove for the glass to be placed in-between the metal gap during manufacturing and it is not possible to dismantle it to make modification to it and fix it back.

2. Can I keep my existing window frame and install soundproof windows on it?

Answer: The regular aluminium window frame that HDB supplies are of basic calibre (width, thickness, internal structure). The width, thickness of the frame is much smaller than Fortuna’s uPVC Window Frame. Besides that, our unique uPVC frame has multiple chambers inside the frame that helps to insulate sound and heat penetration.

3. Can I install soundproof windows for my new BTO house?

Answer: Following HDB’s regulation, the new BTO windows will require a permit that is not likely to be approved without a good and strong reason. However, if you are still keen; we are able to install our soundproof windows on the inside of the BTO apartment’s window.

4. Can I install soundproof windows for my commercial shopfront/condo/landed property?

Answer: Yes, we have years of experience liaising with building management and condo management. I.e. Permit Application, Window/Glass of the same color on the exterior of the building and Safety Requirements.

5. Is there a showroom that I can see your physical product showcase?

Answer: Yes, please feel free to make an appointment with us by dialing our hotline at 6453-5555 before making your way to 10 Kaki Bukit Road 1, KB Industrial Building, #03-22, S416175.

Technical

1. Which is better material for soundproofing: UPVC or Aluminium?

Answer: uPVC (Unplasticized PolyVinyl Chloride) has numerous benefits over Aluminium. uPVC is more rigid, durable, and its unique structure within its frame makes it tough for sound and heat to penetrate your windows.

2. Which type of glass is most effective for soundproofing?

Answer: Laminated Glass would be your best bet. It is very similar to a hamburger. Basically it has multiple layers of glass that has a layer of PVB (Polyvinyl butyral) in-between that helps to trap sound wave.

3. What is the difference of STC and sound decibel?

Answer: Sound Decibel is the unit measurement of sound (Lower the better). While STC means Sound Transmission Class, refers to an integer rating of how well a building partition attenuates airborne sound

4. Does thicker glass have better soundproof effect?

Answer: This is common misconception as it makes logical sense that thicker glass is stronger. However, the key to insulate sound is the quantity and quality of the barriers in the window. Both PVB and Vacuum Air space between the layers of glasses are additional superior barrier to block off sound and heat.

5. I have previously installed double glazed windows and there is still sound problem.

Answer: Here are some checklists to check if you have purchased a legit soundproof window:
– The window frame should have at least 5 small chambers within its structure
– The window frame width and thickness should exceed your existing old window frame quality
– The window handle must be able to have a full lockdown and fill the empty space when fully shut and closed.
– The joinery (corner L shape) of the window frame should not have a visible joint.

Sound Proofing

The Problem

SERANGOON IS NOISIEST PART OF SINGAPORE

A total of 18,768 sound measurements were recorded over a 21/12-month period in a new study on noisy by NUS
audiologist William Hal Martin and graduate student Diong Huey Ting. Accoeding to the data, the noisiest parts of
Singapore (based on planning zones) are:

The Solution

UNDERSTANDING NOISE

SOUND TRANSMISSION CLASS

STC (Sound Transmission Class)
is an integer rating of how well a partition (medium) attenuates airborne sound.
Let’s say we have a 100dB source
from one side of the wall. And the reading on the other side of the wall is 75dB.
The transmission loss will be 25dB.
Therefore, a higher rated STC wall or window will help to reduce noise infiltration more effectively.

Material Profile

WHAT IS UPVC?

UPVC (Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride) is extremely rigid replicate of PVC (Synthetic Plastic), that is
suitable for load-bearing applications such as windows and doors. UPVC is a better material for
Windows frame as compared to Aluminum.

DOUBLE / TRIPLE GLAZED GLASS

Multi Glazing in soundproofing terms, refers to having two or more layers of glass with a
space between them.

It is designed to reduce loss of heat and noise. The technology have make it possible to
make triple glazed or even quadruple glazed.

BUILT IN BLIND CUSTOMIZATION

Making use of the air space in-between the two layer of glass, a blind can be built within to
have a curtain’s benefit combined with a window. Thin layers of aluminum sheets has been
stringed together to form a roller blind that is adjustable and retractable.
